OUR STORY
The Birth of Oosko Garage
Founded in 2015 by mechanic-turned-entrepreneur John Mwangi, Oosko Garage began as a small roadside workshop in Nairobi with just one hydraulic jack and a dream. Frustrated by seeing Kenyans overpay for subpar car repairs, John vowed to create a garage that combined German-level precision with local affordability. The name “Oosko” came from his childhood nickname “Osoko” (Swahili for “the fixer”), earned by repairing bicycles in his Kibera neighborhood. Those humble beginnings shaped Oosko’s core values: transparency, expertise, and community trust.
The Turning Point
The garage’s big break came in 2018 when a client’s newly serviced SUV survived a treacherous trip to Northern Kenya without a single mechanical issue. That customer—a fleet manager for a safari company—became Oosko’s first corporate client, referring 15 other vehicles. Word spread fast about the garage that used genuine parts but charged fair prices, and soon Oosko expanded to a 4-bay workshop with diagnostic computers. But John’s proudest moment? Training 12 former street youths as certified mechanics, proving that “quality service lifts everyone.”
Today’s Oosko Legacy
Now serving 200+ vehicles monthly, Oosko Garage stands as a testament to Kenyan ingenuity. Beyond repairs, they run free “Car Care Saturdays” to educate drivers on basic maintenance. Their signature move? Handing customers a transparent red folder with before/after photos of replaced parts and saved old components—no hidden work. As John often says: “We don’t just fix cars; we fix the broken trust in auto repair.” With plans to launch a mobile mechanic app, Oosko’s story is still accelerating.
